10th Judicial District Adoption Day
The 10th Judicial District has participated in National Adoption since 2005. National Adoption Day is a collective national effort to raise awareness of the 114,000 children in foster care waiting to find permanent, loving families. National Adoption Day has made the dreams of thousands of children come true by working with courts, judges, attorneys, adoptions professionals, child welfare agencies and advocates to finalize adoptions and find permanent loving homes for children in foster care.
National Adoption Day is celebrated every year on the Saturday before Thanksgiving. This day is celebrated in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. In total, more than 250 events are yearly celebrated throughout the country to finalize the adoptions of more than 3,300 children in foster care, and to celebrate all families who adopt.
Our 10th Judicial District Adoption Day is a joint effort between the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, the Foster Care Review Board, CASA of South Central Nebraska and the Court. Lancaster and Douglas Juvenile Courts are the only other courts in Nebraska presently conducting Adoption Days.
Each year we have been privileged to finalize adoptions during the morning of Adoption Day. 10 adoptions were completed in 2005, 15 in 2006, 7 in 2007, 10 in 2008 and 9 in 2009. All adoptions previously finalized throughout the 10th Judicial District the past year are also celebrated on that day. A luncheon celebration is held each year with food and fun for all those involved in the adoption process.
The 10th Judicial District Adoption Day will be an annual celebration for years to come.

An annual Adoption Day Golf Tournament at Southern Hills Country Club was initiated in 2008. This annual fall fundraiser has provided all the necessary funding for not only our annual celebration but also it has also allowed our committee to help other courts to create their own Adoption Day celebrations.
