![]() ![]() Front Row (l to r) Magistrates Steeter, Gilpin and Medinger Back Row (l to r) Magistrates Hawes, Wehrman, Bergen, Chief Justice Michael Heavican, Magistrates Duffy, Carrigan and Eckhoff The Tenth Judicial District Magistrates are the recipients of the Nebraska Supreme Court 2009 Innovation Award. This award recognizes employees for their contribution of effectiveness, efficiency, or economy to the Nebraska Judicial System operations. The Tenth Judicial District Clerk Magistrates who received the award are Thomas Hawes, Julie Bergen, Jolene Duffy, Cindy Carrigan, Christine Gilpin, Sandy Medinger, Randy Eckhoff, Diane Wehrman and Darrie Streeter. They were nominated by Jolene Duffy, Clerk Magistrate. In her nomination letter, Magistrate Duffy writes, “I believe the Magistrates are deserving due to two amazing technology opportunities that we bestowed upon the Tenth Judicial District in the form of a virtual web site called Wiki and web cams.” She adds, “better communication within promotes better service to our public.” In addition to a lunch with the Supreme Court Chief Justice and the State Court Administrator at the Governor’s Mansion, the Tenth Judicial District Magistrates shared a $750 cash award. ![]()
National Adoption Day in South Central Nebraska
In 2005, the 10th Judicial District County Court was the first County Court in the State of Nebraska to establish an Adoption Day. The celebration has continued on each Saturday prior to Thanksgiving thereafter. Following are the original members of the Adoption Day Committee, who are still overseeing the yearly celebration: Kris Larsen, DHHS; RuAnn Root, CASA; Beth Wissing, CASA; Tami Gangwish, Boys and Girls Home; Hon., Michael L. Offner, County Judge; and Jennifer Anderson. The first graduation of the family drug court occurred on October 28, 2008. The program is designed to break the cycle of child abuse and neglect due to parental substance abuse. ![]() Judge Michael L. Offner and his wife Jan with the 2009 Distinguished Judge Award Judge Offner is recipient of Judicial Award. On October 15, 2009, Chief Justice Michael Heavican presented County Judge Michael L. Offner the 2009 Nebraska Distinguished Judge for the Improvement of the Judiciary Award. This award is given to a judge who has distinguished himself through contributions to the improvement of the judicial system; service as a trial judge; or promotion of judicial efficiency. The award is the highest honor given by the Chief Justice to recognize member of the judiciary for meritorious projects and exemplary accomplishments that enhance the vision of justice within Nebraska communities. |
